The continued&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/e565211b?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dialogue between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin<\/a>, described by both sides as productive, marks a meaningful path forward toward ending the conflict playing out in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside diplomatic movement forward in this one respect, there are countervailing forces pushing the world toward wider war: U.S. arms transfers to Taiwan, China\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/1d1459e6?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">encirclement<\/a>&nbsp;of the island in response, Europe\u2019s rearmament drive, and preparations to station&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/65208212?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-range missiles in Germany<\/a>&nbsp;that would again place the continent on the nuclear front line.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/2dae0a6d?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ukraine\u2019s drone attack on Putin\u2019s residence<\/a>\u2014made not long after the Trump-Zelenskyy meeting on Dec. 28, was denounced by a self-described \u201cvery angry\u201d Trump, as an action that leads away from peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\u2019s total support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, including backing up Israel \u201c100%\u201d when it comes to the Gaza peace plan whose implementation it is stalling, is setting Trump up for being convinced to order further strikes on Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where diplomacy appears, Anglo-NATO forces invested in confrontation move to overwhelm it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are not separate crises. Ukraine, Taiwan, and Gaza are symptoms of a single failure\u2014the refusal to replace geopolitics with a security order grounded in development. Without that shift, every ceasefire remains fragile, every negotiation exposed to provocation, every peace merely a reprieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Equally decisive is the internal front. The suppression of dissent across Europe and North America takes the form of sanctions on journalists,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/3dc73ff4?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">criminalization of protest<\/a>, and expanding surveillance. Societies preparing for war silence the very voices needed to change course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet an alternative is visible. T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/eir.news\/r\/d22a44da?m=e6e885ec-2936-49b8-84d1-b2a9369836e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rapid construction of 455,000 homes<\/a>&nbsp;after the 2023 earthquake demonstrates what is possible when state power is mobilized for life rather than destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What could the hundreds of billions spent on weapons have done, if spent instead on rebuilding cities, expanding infrastructure, and removing the roots of conflict?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acting to change history\u2019s trajectory now means insisting on a new security and development architecture\u2014making economic reconstruction the measure of security. The door leading to that future is still open.
