Helga Zepp-LaRouche, president of the Schiller<\/span><\/span><\/span> Institute international think tank, „urged the U.S. to join the<\/span><\/span><\/span> Belt and Road Initiative during a forum that shed light on the<\/span><\/span><\/span> principles and scope of China-proposed global development<\/span><\/span><\/span> initiative,“ China Daily<\/em>, the national English-language<\/span><\/span><\/span> newspaper, reported Tuesday.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

China Daily<\/em>\u00a0cited Zepp-LaRouche’s videotaped message to<\/span><\/span><\/span> the forum held by the Schiller Institute and the P.R.C. Consulate<\/span><\/span><\/span> in Glendale two days ago, on the subject of\u00a0 „China’s Belt and<\/span><\/span><\/span> Road Initiative \u2014 A Historic Opportunity for the U.S.A.“<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

„`We want to cooperate with the Belt and Road Initiative,<\/span><\/span><\/span> but we emphatically insist that the U.S. must be a part of it,‘<\/span><\/span><\/span> Zepp-LaRouche told the forum, which was attended by diplomats<\/span><\/span><\/span> from China, Belgium and Kenya, as well as representatives of<\/span><\/span><\/span> local government,“ the paper reported.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

„Zepp-LaRouche praised China’s reform and opening-up<\/span><\/span><\/span> efforts, which she said has not only transformed China<\/span><\/span><\/span> economically, but also allowed China to help other developing<\/span><\/span><\/span> countries overcome underdevelopment and poverty.\u00a0‚Now, the West<\/span><\/span><\/span> should not be upset about it, because they could have done the<\/span><\/span><\/span> same thing. Why didn’t the U.S. and Europe develop Africa, Latin<\/span><\/span><\/span> America, and most of the Asian countries?‘ she asked.“<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Notably, China Daily<\/em>\u00a0reported that in his presentation on<\/span><\/span><\/span> the BRI to the forum, China’s Deputy Consul General in Los<\/span><\/span><\/span> Angeles Shi Yuanqiang said that while the U.S. government did not<\/span><\/span><\/span> send any representatives to the Second Belt and Road Forum for<\/span><\/span><\/span> International Cooperation this year, U.S. Embassy representatives<\/span><\/span><\/span> did attend, and „in fact, the U.S. had the largest group of<\/span><\/span><\/span> delegates among all the countries at the second forum.“<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
